Sustainability needs a new mindset

On October 23rd, CIONET Italia hosted a Community event at the Musei Reali di Torino, bringing together CIOs and IT leaders to explore the need for a new mindset in sustainability. Moderated by Davide Gindro, the newly appointed President of CIONET's Advisory Board and CIO & CDO at SOL Group, the event, titled "Sustainability Needs a New Mindset" delved into the transformative potential of technology in driving sustainable initiatives, rethinking investments, IT resources, and organisational behaviour.

The event was kicked off by a keynote speech from Massimo Rosso, Chief Procurement Officer at RAI, a public broadcasting service. Rosso shared RAI's inspiring approach to sustainability, demonstrating how even large organizations can make significant strides in this area.

Panel Discussions:

Two insightful panel discussions followed, featuring industry experts who shared their experiences and insights.

Panel 1: Integrating Sustainability into Core Operations

  • Sandra Giraud, IT Director Cluster New Countries at EMEIS discussed the company's commitment to social responsibility and how it aligns with their sustainability goals.
  • Francesca Porta, Director of IT at Autogrill highlighted the use of IoT and data to achieve energy savings and the positive impact of their social sustainability choices.
  • Andrea Negrini, Partner at EY explained the importance of a holistic data model in meeting the requirements of the CSRD and supporting other compliance initiatives. He also explored the potential of AI in emission calculation and reduction.

Panel 2: The Role of Digital Tools in Sustainability

  • Claudio Farina, Chief Strategy & Technology Officer at SNAM discussed how digital tools can support sustainability initiatives for companies of all sizes, even addressing the challenge of technology's energy consumption.
  • Carmela Scaffidi, Industry & Company Advanced Analytics Senior Manager at Fater shared how AI can help Fater address market variability challenges and promote sustainability.
  • Mattia Poretti, Customer Engineering Manager at Google Cloud presented Google's use of AI and datasets to help organizations monitor sustainability progress and emphasized Google's commitment to circular management principles.
