New call-to-action

Agentic AI: The Third Wave of Intelligent Automation

The BeNeLux region, with its thriving digital infrastructure and strategic position in Europe, is increasingly becoming a hub for AI innovation. As enterprises modernise legacy systems and enhance operational agility, agentic AI presents a compelling pathway to autonomous decision-making and intelligent automation.

Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems capable of acting autonomously, making decisions and taking action without direct human input. This technology leverages machine learning (ML) and reinforcement learning (RL) to solve complex, multi-step problems. It combines sophisticated reasoning, iterative planning and the ability to flexibly learn, problem-solve, and adapt to changing environments.

In contrast to generative AI (GenAI), which focuses on content generation — creating text, images, or code- agentic AI drives decision-making, performs tasks, and plans workflows to achieve goals. While GenAI powers content creation, agentic AI underpins robotic process automation, autonomous vehicles, and more advanced customer service chatbots.

KyndrylAgentic AI is widely considered the third wave of AI. The first wave focused on prediction, enabling businesses to forecast trends and make data-driven decisions. The second wave brought GenAI, giving end users the ability to generate content and interact naturally with machines. Now comes the third wave with agentic AI, enabling organisations to automate entire tasks and perform actions on our behalf.

Readying Organisations for Agentic AI

The AI evolution is fast-moving, and in order for organisations to keep up with this third wave, Kyndryl launched its Agentic AI Framework,  enabling enterprises to adopt, deploy and scale agentic AI-powered solutions — whether on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid IT setting — to transform and improve their business operations. This framework orchestrates self-directed, self-learning agents that dynamically respond to shifting conditions across complex IT environments.

According to the Kyndryl Readiness Report, while 86% of leaders across BeNeLux express confidence in their AI implementations, only 29% believe their systems are ready to manage future risks, highlighting the urgency of agentic AI adoption.

As BeNeLux navigates the next wave of digital transformation, agentic AI stands out as a strategic enabler for automation as well as intelligent, resilient, and human-aligned progress.
