Every organisation has them, projects that keep running long after their purpose has faded. No one remembers who asked for them, but shutting them down feels riskier than keeping them alive. And eventually, people stay assigned, budgets stay allocated, and energy drains into work that no longer matters. Inertia at its finest. Ending a project is rarely a technical decision. It’s emotional, political, and often tied to past promises or personal reputation. The longer something runs, the harder it becomes to admit it’s time to stop. Yet clearing that backlog of half-dead initiatives is often the only way to make room for new ones. So how do you decide when to pull the plug? What signals show that value is gone, and who gets to say so? How can governance encourage honest calls without punishing those who make them? Let’s discuss how to end gracefully, refocus teams, and turn closure into confidence rather than blame. Bullet in the head? Is that how you kill a zombie, or was it a silver bullet in the heart? A closed conversation on how to make progress by learning to stop.

AI projects continue to multiply, but proving their value remains difficult. Most organisations can track activity, not impact. Dashboards count pilots and models, yet few translate to measurable business outcomes. The result is familiar: success stories without clarity on what they actually delivered. The real issue is measurement. Traditional ROI metrics fail when AI changes decisions more than results. Financial indicators miss the operational gains, while qualitative benefits often sound too vague to defend. Without clear evidence, budgets come under scrutiny and confidence erodes. This session focuses on how to connect AI work with business outcomes through structured metrics, governance, and accountability. We’ll explore how value tracking evolves from experimentation to scale, which indicators earn trust at board level, and where measurement stops being meaningful. A closed exchange for comparing methods, tools, and lessons learned in defining, proving, and sustaining AI impact.

Composability sounds elegant in theory: small, independent parts that come together to form something greater, but in practice, it’s messy. What happens when modules overlap, APIs evolve differently across domains, and governance struggles to keep pace? What was meant to simplify architecture sometimes ends up multiplying it.

Accelerates Digital Transformation with the help of Trend Micro Cloud One – Workload Security
OVERVIEW
Since the founding of its oldest product brand in 1790, Flowserve has become one of the leading providers of flow control products and services to the water, power, oil, gas, and chemical industries. As Flowserve expanded through acquisitions, its IT landscape rapidly became more complex to protect against the most advanced threats. Flowserve selected Trend Micro Cloud One™ – Workload Security to gain comprehensive protection for its diverse global environment. With its applications, operating systems, and server/workloads aptly protected, Flowserve can focus on its digital transformation goals.
CHALLENGES
Flowserve has grown substantially with operations in more than 50 countries and 300 locations worldwide, creating a complex global IT landscape that includes numerous applications running on servers, virtual machines, and operating systems. “Our ability to protect legacy applications while simultaneously modernizing and transforming the company is one of our biggest challenges,” says John Breen, global head of cybersecurity at Flowserve.
Flowserve is undergoing a digital transformation and recently adopted a comprehensive cloud strategy that is focused on moving 90% of their systems from on-premises to the cloud by 2026. To support that migration, Flowserve wanted to shift to cloud security protections with advanced capabilities.
“In the industry, we see some very creative attacks and we have to stay ahead. Protecting the company, our employees, and our intellectual property is a priority,” says Breen.
"The biggest factor in that decision was the number of systems Trend Micro could protect. Trend Micro covers the vast majority of applications, operating systems, and servers we use. In addition, virtual patching accelerates the delivery of security protections. It was the right fit for the complexity of our landscape."
John Breen - Global Head of Cybersecurity, Flowserve
WHY TREND
Flowserve compared several security vendors and ultimately decided that Trend Micro was the best solution. “The biggest factor in that decision was the number of systems Trend Micro could protect. Trend Micro covers the vast majority of applications, operating systems, and servers we use. In addition, virtual patching accelerates the delivery of security protections. It was the right fit for the complexity of our landscape,” says Breen. “We also knew Workload Security went beyond protecting servers and cloud workloads. Trend Micro could secure our future cloud projects with protection for containers, network, and security posture management, while also providing exceptional support. When our team ran into an unexpected challenge during implementation, Trend Micro immediately put the right team behind us and quickly resolved the issue.”
"Workload Security gives us the security coverage needed to make our cloud journey seamless. With the ability to protect hybrid, multi-cloud environments from one central dashboard and track servers in multiple countries with deep integration in the cloud, we can focus on Flowserve’s digital transformation without having to worry about security."
John Breen - Global Head of Cybersecurity, Flowserve
SOLUTION
Flowserve selected Workload Security as the primary infrastructure protection for their servers and as the primary endpoint protection for its hybrid IT infrastructure. Workload Security provides comprehensive security in a single solution—protecting the company from ransomware, malware, and other threats in the cloud and on-premises. It also provides consistent security regardless of the workload and a rich set of application programming interfaces (APIs) to automate security.
“One of the key benefits of Workload Security is virtual patching. It quickly protects our legacy servers from vulnerabilities while we wait for an upgrade window or for the vendor to issue a patch. And for us, speed is critical.” says Breen.
RESULTS
Workload Security is helping Flowserve remain secure from the hundreds of cybersecurity threats received daily. The platform also helps Flowserve achieve their digital transformation goals by protecting cloud workloads as they adopt an increasingly hybrid IT environment. Additionally, the automation included in Workload Security allows Flowserve’s IT team to improve security without requiring additional resources.
WHAT'S NEXT
Flowserve will continue to strengthen its cybersecurity, with a strong focus on automation. “Automated attacks need automated responses.” says Breen. Flowserve recently deployed Trend Micro™ Cloud App Security. They are also evaluating Trend Micro Cloud One™ – Conformity for improved security as they move forward with their digital transformation. “We’ll continue to work closely and collaborate with Trend Micro to ensure our people and our company remain protected.”
