Data Sovereignty: Data passports as the future of trust for consumers (and growth for companies)

Data is the bedrock of how modern organisations perform everyday transactions for customers while also optimising their overall experience of the brand, product or service on offer. The rise of freemium business models is just one powerful example of how consumer data is also being leveraged by smart organisations to generate new streams of revenue.

However, as data usage has evolved, so to have consumer attitudes to its governance. Where once data protection was a mere compliance ‘tick box’ for businesses, it’s now a mission critical concern that needs careful thought and consideration.

This has led to many questions concerning the ethics of data management, handling and usage.

Among the vital questions businesses need to answer is, how can the balance be struck between providing unparalleled customer service, whilst remaining watertight when it comes to data governance and transparency?

The panel guests for this unique event will be:

  • Emmet Townsend, VP Engineering at Inrupt (a company that is co-founded by Tim Berners-Lee) will explore the market opportunities presented to businesses via data governance tech solutions, and how they can help in rebuilding consumer trust and loyalty. He’ll present a number of real-world examples of how tech is supporting organisations in the home retailing, banking and public sectors when it comes to unleashing better customer / end user services whilst rebuilding public trust and loyalty.

  • Alexander Van den Wall Bake, Aegon’s Innovation Manager for Business Automation, will look at how smarter data ecosystems have the potential to shape the insurance sector of tomorrow. He’ll suggest how data will allow providers to pivot from a reactive to a more proactive delivery model, while allowing them to provide more relevant and tailored products and services for the modern consumer finance industry.

  • Rhys Lynch, AND Digital’s Service Delivery Manager, will share insights from his work with companies like IATA (building the IATA Travel Pass) and tell about the practicalities of getting the right strategy and skills in place to build robust data compliance capabilities. He will also explore the role of the right partner in delivering the underlying data journey.
