On 19 April 2012 during CIO CITY, European Commissioner Neelie Kroes will hand out the European CIO of the Year Awards 2012. José Manuel Inchausti, CIO of Mapfre is one of the 13 nominees. Check out his profile below.
José Manuel Inchausti (Madrid, 1964) has a Law Degree from the Complutense University in Madrid and a Degree in Business Administration from MAPFRE’s University Centre (CUMES). He joined MAPFRE in October 1988.
After a period at the branches in Oviedo and Seville, he joined the Motor Claims Department of MAPFRE MUTUALIDAD, at the Luchana branch (Madrid). In 1990, he was appointed Deputy General Manager of MAPFRE INTERNACIONAL -presently MAPFRE AMÉRICA- for the Southern Cone Area, at its headquarters in Madrid.
After this first stage, in 1996 his professional career abroad started when he was transferred to Brazil, where he was appointed Operations Manager (C.O.O) of MAPFRE Vera Cruz Vida e Previdencia and took part in the creation of a new IT system, leading the Technical and Administration Areas. Three years later, he was appointed General Manager of MAPFRE SEGUROS GENERALES in Colombia, and later on, Executive Chairman. Under his leadership, the foundations for MAPFRE’s growth in Colombia were laid.
In 2003, he returned to Spain to join the Regional Organisation, first as Manager of Catalonia’s 1st Regional Head Office and later on (2005) as Catalonia’s Regional General Manager. Within this remit, he participated in the reorganisation of MAPFRE’s Sales Network in Spain and supported the local development of some technological tools that have become standards across the Group.
In 2007, he was appointed General Manager of MAPFRE’s Technologies and Procedures Division, a newly created position that he still holds. This Area aims to integrate all the technology at MAPFRE and position the Group as one of the technological market leaders. Among the achievements at this stage, of noteworthy mention are the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies such as the Business Process Management and the Service Oriented Architecture (S.O.A), the construction of a new Data Processing Centre (DPC), the reduction of technology-related costs, and the CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) Level 2 certification for MAPFRE’s IT area.
Currently, Mr. Inchausti is a member of MAPFRE FAMILIAR’s Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Executive Committees of MAPFRE’s Domestic Insurance, International Insurance and Global Businesses Divisions. Likewise, he is Vice-Chairman of TIREA, member of the Advisory Board of CIONET and was elected the best CIO in the private sector in 2009 by the Computerworld magazine.
