José-Maria Tavera is Group CIO at ACCIONA, Spanish multinational leader for several industry sectors such as Construction & Engineering, Renewal Energy generation, Water treatment, Logistics and Facility services, since November 2009.
Previously he was working at the Telefónica Group for more than 12 years, first as General Manager of Telefónica Systems (Telefonica group subsidiary of IT solutions for business customers in Spain), then as Corporate CIO (Jan. 2004 – Nov. 2008). Subsequently, he was assigned to different executive positions inside the group information technology area: General Manager of TPTI , Application Development and Maintenance of Telefónica Spain, Corporate e-Business, and Global IT Planning and Control.
Previously, he had been developing his professional career with IBM for 15 years. There, he held various technical and management positions in Spain and the United States of America and led various units of professional services in different industrial branches. In 1997, he was executive in charge for Telecommunications and Public Utilities clients in the organisation of IBM Global Services Spain and Portugal. Before joining IBM, he was IT consultant at Arthur Andersen, and he also was working for the Spanish air force as a systems analyst.
He has a BS degree on Telecommunications Engineering and Computer Science from Madrid Politechnical University; and he has also developed the “Business Advanced Management Program” at the IESE business school (University of Navarra).
