What’s holding senior IT leaders back from the next step? What’s holding them back from the ultimate prize – to lead the whole organisation? With a few notable exceptions, most CIOs don’t become CEOs. They tend to move sideways or into consultancy. There's nothing wrong with either option but for the ambitious IT leader, the chief executive role appears elusive.
In the second of ‘The New CIO’ series of executive roundtables – brought to you by CIONET, Cognizant and Google Cloud – we will explore the barriers in the way of the definitive career step. And we will look to identify the means of navigating through those obstacles.
Does the CIO have a broad enough palate of skills and body of knowledge to take on business-wide responsibilities? Is the IT department still seen as a techie domain separate from the rest of the business? Can high-profile digital transformation projects transform the profile and fortunes of the CIO?
Among the issues that we will consider:
- C-level and board interactions and credibility
- Identifying and showcasing the right experience, expertise and strategic acumen
- Perceptions of the IT function versus reality
- Becoming a trusted and indispensable advisor
- Identifying and refining the necessary hard and soft skills
Join us on the evening of 2 December for the second roundtable in the series – dinner and discussion in the company of experts from Google Cloud and Cognizant. This is the perfect opportunity to network, exchange ideas with your peers, and reimagine the future of IT leadership.
