What will it take for the CIO community to take
this issue seriously? How can technology help address the problem?
According to the International Energy Agency, data centres alone could be responsible for 3.2% of global carbon emissions by 2025. Taking all aspects of IT into account, this may be 5% or more. But where does sustainability sit within the CIO’s agenda this year? According to CIONET research it does not even feature in the top ten list of CIO priorities for many members. Perhaps the reason is that sustainability is important but not urgent?
Our forthcoming event addresses this issue head-on by considering what the IT organisation can do to put its own house in order, and how it might help its parent organisation meet net-zero goals. We will address:

A pioneer of today’s Internet in the seventies (at MIT) Roger Camrass has been helping organisations across the Globe harness the power of new technologies and methods for over five decades.
As a thought leader, business executive and part time academic, Roger has introduced a succession of innovations including digital networking in the seventies, outsourcing and call centres in the eighties, business reengineering and third generation mobile networks in the nineties, e-commerce in 2000 and more recently cloud and 5G.
Marco has more than 20 years of experience in Information Technologies
and Services, driving innovation to harness the power of data and cloud to
solve complex environmental, social and business problems. In his last role
as EMEA Head of Strategic Collaborations at Hitachi Vantara, he is
responsible for joint initiatives with Hitachi Energy and other Hitachi’s
sister companies , defining and executing business strategies with a focus
on business model innovation and leading-edge technology application.
Prior to joining Hitachi Vantara, Marco’s experience includes Strategic
Thinking, Business Planning, Innovation Management, Service
Management, Program and Project Management, Business Development,
Entrepreneurial drive with Telco companies like Telecom Italia and
T-Systems, System Integrators like Engineering Ingegneria Informatica and
Unisys and several innovative start-ups.
Marco holds a MSc. in Telecommunications Engineering, an MBA from
MIP Politecnico di Milano Business School, and some executive education
certificates from London Business School and INSEAD.
Marco represents Hitachi Vantara as a member of the Alliance of Internet
of Things Innovation (AIOTI).data center for infrastructure including computing and storage to Hybrid-Cloud and Multi-Cloud, decarbonization methods for companies to reach their sustainability goals, Application Modernization, DataOps, and Big Data Analytics. Tom is also a blogger and advocate for Social Innovation.
