Thinking of a digital Operating Room, the first image that comes to mind with many people is that of a multi-armed surgical robot performing complex procedures on a patient. In reality however a lot more is going on. Multiple systems are assisting a surgeon of flesh and blood to better plan for surgical procedures, to perform the procedure in a more efficient and precise fashion and to achieve better patient outcomes. A wide array of digital tools are making healthcare both more efficient and effective. Nowadays we can achieve better patient outcomes and shorter recovery times that were previously unachievable because medical interventions are becoming ever more personalised, smarter and less invasive.

One of the challenges the healthcare sector is facing, is that the digital surgery landscape remains fragmented. Much of the collected data and acquired insights reside in silos that often are not interconnected nor integrated in the overall IT infrastructure of our hospitals.
