Thinking of a digital Operating Room, the first image that comes to mind with many people is that of a multi-armed surgical robot performing complex procedures on a patient. In reality however a lot more is going on. Multiple systems are assisting a surgeon of flesh and blood to better plan for surgical procedures, to perform the procedure in a more efficient and precise fashion and to achieve better patient outcomes. A wide array of digital tools are making healthcare both more efficient and effective. Nowadays we can achieve better patient outcomes and shorter recovery times that were previously unachievable because medical interventions are becoming ever more personalised, smarter and less invasive.

One of the challenges the healthcare sector is facing, is that the digital surgery landscape remains fragmented. Much of the collected data and acquired insights reside in silos that often are not interconnected nor integrated in the overall IT infrastructure of our hospitals.

As a Digital Leader in a hospital, how do you ensure that your hospital is progressing towards an architecturally sound, secure and interoperable health IT-ecosystem whilst avoiding implementing a hodgepodge of spot solutions? How do you make your IT department team up with the internal stakeholders – medical doctors, nurses, the hospital’s internal governance and administrative bodies – and also the external stakeholders – health authorities, regulators, life sciences companies, technology providers, etc.

During this Circle Meeting we want to co-create a supportive framework for hospitals in their journey towards a Digitally Enable OR and to define the key components of a playbook that allows for hospitals to kick-start and/or sustain their digital implementation journey by leveraging tools, methodologies and lessons learned.
