Panel Discussion: Cyber Business Partner Model

Uwe Larsen joined the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in 1989 after graduating from high school. Following completion of his officer training, he studied Political and Social Sciences at the Bundeswehr University in Munich.

After graduating, he served in the Signal Corps in various leadership positions, followed by German and French General Staff Officer training.

As a General Staff Officer, he held several positions in IT operations as well as in the design and further development of IT systems. He also served as the commander of an IT battalion and as Chief of Staff of the Bundeswehr Digitalisation Centre.

A particularly significant milestone in his career was his involvement in 2015 in the task force responsible for establishing the Cyber and Information Domain (CIR), a completely new organisational domain within the Bundeswehr.

In his current position as Head of Division IC III 1 at the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg), he is responsible, among other things, for the operation and operational management of the Bundeswehr’s IT systems.

Colonel Larsen has participated in four overseas deployments, spending a total of one year in the Balkans and one year in Afghanistan.

He is 57 years old, married, has two adult sons and lives in Lohmar, near Bonn.
