José Olalla is CIO of BBVA and finalist of the European CIO of the Year 2013. He graduated as an Engineer in Telecommunications (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) and as a Specialist in Finance b(Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia). He’s got a PDG by IESE Business School and a MBA by the University of Chicago Booth. He’s also a certified Financial Advisor and Financial Planner, certifications provided by the European Financial Planning Association (EFPA).
He started his professional career in 1989 in Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). In 1992 he joined Argentaria Bank, which merged with Banco Bilbao Vizcaya in 1999 to create what today is BBVA. During his more than twenty years in the bank, Jose has had many executive positions in different areas including Management Information, Wholesale Banking, Strategy, E-business, Innovation, Marketing and Technology. He has spent five years in Technology and Operations, the last three being the Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the BBVA Group.
When not at work, Jose enjoys sports (he loves running), latin music and logic puzzles.
