At Record Bank, Louis Mahy realized the dream of just about any CIO. He did away with the systems of the past and built an all-new IT environment from the ground up. In the process, Mahy has maintained a rigorous focus on the core tasks of IT: supporting the service of the banking departments.
Record Bank is a subsidiary of ING. The bank offers traditional banking products and credit solutions for private individuals, the self-employed and small businesses. With one million accounts, Record Bank is responsible for some thirty per cent of the retail figures for ING Belgium. The bank’s model is based on a network of independent offices and brokers. Record Bank is the product of a series of mergers and acquisitions, which left the IT department facing an extremely heterogeneous environment. “Five years ago, we started out from zero to develop a new central IT environment,” recounts CIO Louis Mahy. “We developed a clear vision from the get-go: IT needs to be a business enabler that lets the bank provide financial services through different channels. We provide the IT support on the basis of a service-oriented architecture and via the cloud.”
